Epson 4880 Color Printing

Using the Epson Stylus Pro 4880 color printer, you can request large, highly detailed color prints that offer superior quality to most standard color printers. This service is a little more complex than the standard printing services that are offered, so it is important that you follow the guidelines on this page. For the time being, you will need to use a Mac computer to print to the Epson 4880 printer. The paper used is a roll of 16" semigloss paper. Current pricing is $4 per linear foot, rounded to the nearest foot.

Note: If you don't follow these instructions, your print may not turn out correctly, but you will still have to pay for it!

  5. The file sent to the Colorburst printer is based on the Paper Size, not the actual dimensions of your file. The paper size sets the bounding box (dimension) information. All margins are set to zero. See preset sizes for standard dimensions or choose Manage Custom Sizes. Enter the width and height that match your files dimensions. Select ColorBurst_RIP under Printer Margins. Press OK after creating a custom paper size.

  6. Select a Paper Size, choosing ”Your Paper Size” if you created a custom size. The dimensions you entered will be displayed underneath your selection.

  7. Verify your settings in Photoshop by going to File > Print. Does your image have any white space around it? If so, your page size is not set correctly. Go back and make sure your page size matches your dimensions. Are the Position Top and Left values set to zero when center image is selected? If not, make sure that you are using the ColorBurst Epson RIP - v2.0, your paper size matches your image dimensions, and your paper margins are set to zero.

  8. Print from Photoshop to Colorburst. After you have verified your settings, click Print to send your file to the Colorburst Job List. Make sure Colorburst_RIP is selected. With the Presets > Standard selected click print to send file to printer.

  9. Finally, the patron needs to note the working Color Space before they go to the front counter. Although this can be done in several ways, the easiest is to open the Document Profile menu located on the bottom of the image.

Releasing Your Print Job

  1. Go to the front counter and let a consultant know you sent a print job to the Epson printer. Remember to
tell the consultant which color profile you used.

  2. The consultant will verify the print job and give you the cost of the print on a slip of paper.

  3. Go to the Reserve desk to pay for your print. Make sure to collect and save your receipt.

  4. Return to the Knowledge Commons front counter and show a consultant your receipt. They will release the print job and give the print to you when finished. This may take several minutes for larger printouts.
