Hardware [2003.08.20] (back to top)
There are approximately 325 Macs in the open labs managed by the Student Computing Labs. These include 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, Dual 2 GHz Power Macintosh G5s, 1 GHz 15" iMacs, 800 MHz 15" iMacs, 17" iMacs, Dual 1.25 GHz Power Macintosh G4s, 733 MHz Power Macintosh G4s, 466 MHz Power Macintosh G4s, and a few 400 MHz Power Macintosh G4s.

Software [2005.10.06] (back to top)
Over 150 programs are offered on the Macs in the labs, with a wide range of functionality. This includes graphics editing software, web browsers, text editors, word processors, spreadsheet programs, file transfer utilities, X-11 applications, and chat programs, among others. Keep your eyes open for Developer Tools.

Operating System [2005.10.09] (back to top)
Currently, all lab machines are running Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) — the latest version of the Macintosh Operating System. This powerful operating system combines the stability of Unix with the famous ease-of-use of the Macintosh to make an "insanely great" OS. Next time you've got a lot of windows open on a lab machine you can press F9, F10, or F11 to activated Exposé, which makes finding the right window or jumping to the Desktop much easier.
