Adding Custom Fonts with Font Book [2008.05.13]

Back to Mac Help

  • Launch Font Book by using Finder
  • Drag your custom font file or folder onto the Font Book window
  • Launch your DTP application of choice (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Microsoft Word, etc...)
  • Newly added custom fonts will now be accessible in the application’s font menus.

NOTE: We highly recommend compressing (.zip, .sit, .dmg, etc.) your fonts prior to transporting them on removable media (like floppy, zip, USB Flash drives, etc.) Copy the files to the Mac OS X desktop, decompress the fonts (double click), then follow the steps above. This helps prevent font corruption during to transport of font files on disk formats used by Windows or other platforms.
